FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama's new police chief, Robert Pastula, will be formally sworn in at 9 a.m. Oct. 8 in the Performance Center of UNA's Guillot University Center. Pastula will be sworn in by Chief Rick Singleton of the Florence Police Department. A reception will follow in the GUC Loft.
Pastula assumed his role as police chief Oct. 1. Pastula has served as a marshal with the U.S. Marshal Service the past 20 years. He has served in a variety of leadership and management positions within the U.S. Marshal Service and currently serves as assistant chief deputy U.S. marshal and division manager for the Fort Myers Division in Fort Myers, Fla. As division manager, he is responsible for the overall command and management of the Fort Myers Marshal's Office, which serves six counties, 7,192 square miles and 812,887 residents. In 1998, he was appointed assistant chief deputy U.S. marshal for the Middle District of Florida. Pastula also serves as a reserve Lieutenant with the Lee County Port Authority Police Department. Prior to his appointment as a U.S. Marshal, Pastula served as a state trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol from 1982 to 1988, as a deputy sheriff with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office from 1981 to 1982 and as a police officer with the Keego Harbor Police Department from 1980 to 1981. Pastula earned a bachelor's degree in criminology from the University of South Florida and a master's degree in criminal justice from the University of Alabama. He received advanced training from the U.S. Secret Service and at the FBI National Academy. He also has extensive university teaching experience, having served as an adjunct professor of criminal justice at Florida Gulf Coast University, Edison State College, International College and the University of South Florida.About The University of North Alabama
