FLORENCE, AL – The Master of Accountancy program in the College of Business and Technology at the University of North Alabama has been named for Abroms & Associates, P.C., a Florence-based company. Founded by Martin R. Abroms, a UNA graduate and President of Abroms & Associates, P.C., the gift is a nod to his years as a student as well as to his tenure as a member of the UNA Board of Trustees. He has previously endowed scholarships at UNA in order to support accounting students.
“We are excited to make this investment,” Abroms said. “We are confident it will pay big dividends in the years ahead by allowing the University to attract and graduate even more top-notch individuals that want to not only obtain their MAcc but also become CPAs.”
The other shareholders at Abroms & Associates, P.C., are also providing support for this gift, including Barry Jacobs, Heather Kilpatrick, Kayla Hoofman, and Agenda Davis. The CPA firm has a long-term history of support for the UNA accounting program through its multi-year funding of select accounting awards to deserving students. The gift solidifies the partnership between the College of Business and Technology and Abroms & Associates, P.C., that will be significant for future generations of students to enroll in the Abroms & Associates, P.C., Master of Accountancy program, according to College Dean Dr. Greg Carnes.
“We are very honored that the shareholders of Abroms & Associates have partnered with us in providing excellent accounting programs for our students,” said Dean Carnes. “Abroms & Associates is well-respected for tax and accounting services, and they are known for their expertise and professionalism. Many of their shareholders and accounting professionals are alums from UNA, and they want to continue to attract our best accounting students to their firm.”
The naming is effective immediately. The Master of Accountancy is one of the fastest-growing accounting graduate programs in the nation. The program began approximately three years ago and has an enrollment of 130 students. UNA offers Scholarships of Distinction for high-performing students who major in accounting that can provide up to 100 percent of tuition, fees, room and boards.
